Changing facilities should always be adequately maintained due to the operation of specialist equipment being crucial for the users. Specialist equipment installed in Changing Places will always include a ceiling hoist system and a changing bench/table. The basin is usually a rise/lower unit with thermostatically controlled tap and the toilet could be a wash/dry model.
The ceiling hoist system needs to be maintained under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). It is the responsibility of the facility owners to ensure the hoist is safe to use and in excellent working condition in adherence to these regulations. Annual maintenance is necessary to ensure the other specialised equipment is operating safely and to spot any possible faults before a more serious component fails.
