Equipment in health and social environments should always be part of a regular maintenance programme. This is to ensure that through thorough routine and inspection the equipment can be kept in excellent operating conditions and potential problems prevented and rectified.
Under the provision of Use of Work Equipment regulations 1998 (PUWER) it is required that equipment in health and social care is adequately maintained.
Annual servicing contributes largely to these maintenance needs. Other specialist equipment falls under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) due to high risk of injury through lifting equipment failure, LOLER examinations are required in 6-month intervals.
